Twice a year we have Multiply Months where our Sunday services and Life Groups focus on kingdom multiplication. Over time, as Grace Fellowship fulfills its vision “to be a community of people being transformed by the gospel who love and serve where we live, work and play," we hope to multiply believers, disciple makers, leaders and churches.

This month our focus is on Global Missions. 

This Sunday, Daniel Baker, who is with the Sharon India Foundation, will be here speaking to us in both of our services. 

This week, as we focus on Global Missions, our worship set takes us on a journey of what it means to follow Jesus with our whole lives.

We’ll begin with “Narrow Road” by Josh Baldwin, reminding us that following Jesus means choosing His way, even when it isn’t the easiest road. From there, “Build My Life” by Pat Barrett calls us to build everything we are on Jesus so that our lives are ready to be used wherever He leads. We continue with “Worthy of It All” by CeCe Winans, our focus shifts to who He is. Jesus is worthy of our worship, our obedience, and every part of our lives. Then “Follow You” by Leeland gives us a simple response: Wherever You lead, I will go. That is at the heart of missions. It isn’t simply about going somewhere. It’s about being willing to follow Jesus wherever He sends us.

We’ll finish with “Worth Everything” by Josh Baldwin, declaring that Jesus is worth our comfort, our time, our resources, and our entire lives.

Choose His way. Build your life on Him. Recognize His worth. Follow where He leads. Give Him everything.

We can’t wait to worship together this Sunday and see how God might be calling each of us to follow Him. I encourage you to take a listen to “Narrow Road” and “Worth Everything” so you are ready to join us in singing those songs in the coming weeks.

Oikos Church is getting ready to launch. We've been waiting for this moment...the team has been preparing, and they're so excited! Aside from your prayer, there is a specific way you can help them launch this disciple-making church into the community. 

They are seeking 20 volunteers to help run various stations and aspects for the ministry on their launch day so that the launch team can have their hands free and meet the new people that will be coming to Oikos Church for the first time. They are looking for people to fill roles in greeting, hospitality, A/V, kids, and serving food at the cookout immediately after their service. If you're wanting to help in any of these ways, there are two important dates to save. The soft launch is on September 20th at 5:00pm (serving 4:30pm-7:30pm). This will be where the team practices the service and gets a hang of what the roles are. The hard launch is October 4th at 10:00am (serving 9am-1pm). It's important to note that if you are helping with the Oikos Launch, you will be missing church here at GFC on October 4th.

October 1-4, the local chapter of Kairos Prison Ministry is going to be spending roughly 80 hours singing, praying, and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with residents. This is a much needed ministry to men that have been lost and many times forgotten, but so need the love of Jesus.

One tool used on the weekend is passing out cookies. The residents call these “Jesus cookies.” The cookies are used in a variety of ways such as forgiveness, fellowship, and reflection. Residents at the prison will receive at least one dozen Jesus cookies. 

Each outside team member is required to bring 100 dozen homemade cookies. That is where we are asking for help from our church family to please consider donating these “Jesus cookies.” 

Update from the State of Tennessee regarding Kairos cookies: they are now mandating that the cookies must be store-bought, not homemade as in years past. This is just one of the changes they have made this year that limits and changes what the Kairos team is able to do when they enter the prison.

Not all cookies are acceptable: no fruit, nuts, heavy granulated sugar on top, icing or M&M’s are allowed. Oatmeal, chocolate chip, peanut butter, molasses, and sugar cookies are the norm. Chocolate chip cookies are preferred.  There will be a blue and white cooler where cookies can be dropped off in the church hallway. You can drop off the store bought cookies each Sunday morning through September 20 or throughout the week M-Th 9am-4pm. 

We ask that you pray for the team and the inmates who don’t yet know they’re going to be a part of this great life-changing experience with Christ. You may also sponsor an inmate with a monetary donation. Feel free to reach out to Tim Cornett at 423-408-9267 with any questions. 

GFCServes Day: Saturday, September 19th 9am-12pm - (Additional info below)

Our Fall GFCServes event will mostly focus on our community partners the Local Outreach Team sponsors. These include Young Life, Kingsport Community Ministry Center, Summit Leadership and Engage Tri-Cities. Our Serve events will have a variety of activities for many different ages and abilities from hospitality and set up for a ministry fair, painting and cleaning out out a room for teens, weed and tree clean up with chain saws and yard work, light remodeling and filing and organizing. Global Missions Banquet: September 27th, 6pm

To celebrate the end of our Multiply Month focus on global missions, our Global Outreach Team will be hosting a banquet. 

Join us for "From Here to the Harvest," GFC's Mission Banquet Fundraiser! Please register each person 5+ who will be attending the event. Resource Fair – Help with set up, carrying supplies for the vendors, plus hospitality.

Tree removal - Trees to cut up that have fallen so will involve chainsaw work and then also laborers to move the brush. Bring chain saws, rakes, gloves. 15 people needed 9am-12pm.

Spiritual Disciplines Class

Sundays starting September 20 at 10:45am at GFC. For the next step in our Foundations classes, we will be going through Donald Whitney’s book, Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life. The theme of the entire work is based on 1 Timothy 4:7, which states, “Discipline yourself for the purpose of Godliness." Accordingly, our objective will be to spur us toward the disciplines with the goal of Godliness and a deeper relationship with Jesus always in sight. These spiritual disciplines include Bible intake, prayer, worship, evangelism, serving, stewardship, fasting, silence and solitude. According to Whitney, the spiritual disciplines lead to holiness because the disciplines “are like channels of God’s transforming grace.” Since God commands holiness, the spiritual disciplines are a must for us to grow in Christlikeness.

Men's BetterMan Study on "Loving God's Woman, God's Way"

Men - You are invited to join us for another BetterMan Study on “Loving God’s Woman, God’s Way.” We will discuss the Biblical principles that guide men to protect, honor and care for the women God has placed in their lives—whether wives, daughters or sisters in Christ. We will discover that protecting and serving God’s woman is not simply a masculine instinct, but a God-given responsibility modeled after Christ Himself.

This five-week study runs each Sunday, October 4 – November 1. The class will meet at GFC from 9:00 – 10:15 am each Sunday in the Gathering Area. All materials will be provided. Would you like to serve with our prayer team? There are a couple of different ways to serve at GFC.

UPDATE: The Intercessory Prayer Group meets Thursdays at 12:30pm. Anyone is welcome to come and join in and pray. 

Also, the Prayer Team serve Sundays after each service as they meet and pray with members or visitors who are in need of prayer after each service. There are currently openings to serve.

Ladies, you are invited to Make It For Missions, an event hosted by our Women’s Ministry on Friday, September 18th at 7pm at GFC. This will be a special evening where you can use your time and creativity to share the love of Jesus in practical ways. We’ll be making bracelets for Plurway, a ministry that meets practical needs at raves music festivals by providing things like water, blankets, phone charging, and first aid. They use these bracelets as a way to show young people just how precious they are to God. We'll also be creating handmade cards that will be sent to military men and women so they can send their own notes back home to their families. 

If crafting isn’t your thing, we’ll also be collecting monetary donations for the Grace Fellowship Orphanage in India to help provide Christmas gifts for the children and their staff. If you are able to attend, you will learn more about each of these ministries and the impact they are making for the Kingdom.
